I spent a good part of my life thinking that everyone who claims to believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior should automatically understand the extent of that belief.
However, every day I sadly witness that many—including pastors—completely ignore the enemy's schemes and allow themselves to be seduced by the appearance of benevolence and humanitarianism in Satan's arguments, neglecting true biblical sanctification.
Given this, I decided to develop a biblical, logical, and gradual line of reasoning to identify the methods and purposes of the evil one.
As a prerequisite, careful reading of Hebrews 12 e 1ˢᵗ Thessalonians 4, These are highly relevant sources for the unusual distinction between sanctification and salvation!
Believing and Thinking
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved;
But whoever does not believe will be condemned.
It seems obvious that everyone who believes will be saved: salvation is a free gift from God and is independent of our works.
However, the exception to this rule is presented to us in this very curious passage:
You believe that there is only one God; you do well.
Even the demons believe it—and shudder.
This allows us to infer the existence of many—demons and humans—who possess an intellectual "belief," but deliberately choose to act in opposition to the Lord.
Therefore, the first passage adds baptism.
I am not referring to the external and often useless ritual promoted by "ecclesiastical franchises," but to baptism that authenticates biblical sanctification through regeneration by the Spirit:
There is one body and one Spirit,
just as you were called to one hope when you were called;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism;
One God and Father of all,
which is above all, and through all, and in all of you.
Baptism linked to saving faith is characterized by the reception of Holy Spirit, regardless of interaction with water — whether submerging or splashing it on their face — or any mystical signs such as those that characterized your arrival:
Jesus answered and said to him:
If anyone loves me, he will keep my word.,
and my Father will love him, and we will come to him,
and we will make our home there.
Whoever does not love me does not keep my words;
Now, the word that you heard is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.
I have told you these things while I was with you.
But that Comforter, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
He will teach you all things.,
and will remind you of everything I have told you.
Believing in God—by itself, without seeking knowledge and obedience—or, as demons do, trembling and furiously fighting against the precepts recorded in the Scriptures—is no guarantee that, as the ignorant say, no one will "become an angel" in heaven!
Those who seek biblical sanctification learn that they need to reflect God's glory on earth through a life set apart.
Especially those who believe, obey, and seek to sanctify themselves through knowledge of the Scriptures know very well that even “They will be like“", but NO ONE IS GOING TO 'BECOME AN ANGEL IN HEAVEN'!!
Separation
Sanctification, on the other hand, is an ongoing process in which the individual must seek to separate themselves from carnal and secular desires in order to draw closer to God's standard for humankind.
“Holy” is the equivalent of “set apart,” and biblical sanctification is reinforced by various exhortations throughout Scripture:
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers;
Because what kind of society has justice alongside injustice?
What fellowship can light have with darkness?
What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?
Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
What agreement has the temple of God with idols?
For you are the temple of the living God, as God has said:
I will live in them and walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they will be my people.
That's why Come out from among them and be separate., says the Lord;
And do not touch anything unclean,
And I will receive you;
And I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
(…)
Therefore, dear friends, since we have these promises, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit., perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
For you yourselves know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification;
that you abstain from fornication;
That each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor;
Not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God.
No one should wrong or defraud their brother or sister in any matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such things, as we also told you before and testified.
For God did not call us to impurity, but to holiness.
Indeed, all discipline seems painful at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Therefore, lift up your weary hands and your weak knees,
Make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.
I pursued peace with everyone,
e holiness, without which no one will see the Lord..
And who is going to harm you if you are followers of what is good?
But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed.
And do not be afraid of them, nor be troubled;
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts.;
And always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
Putting it into practice
Unlike "believing," which we can consider a solid and specific turning point—since those who "disbelieve" have never truly understood the Truth—the biblical process of sanctification consists of following God's pattern and will, expressed strictly through the Scriptures, from which we can extract some ways of "exercising" such attributes (or not...):
I urge you, therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy,
that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
And do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
so that you may prove what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight.;
for it is written:
He catches the wise in their own cunning.
And again:
The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.
Therefore, let no one boast in men;
because everything is yours;
Whether it be Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or the present, or the future;
Everything is yours.,
And you, of Christ,
and Christ of God.
Adulterers and adulteresses,
Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?
Therefore, whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain:
Is the Spirit that dwells within us jealous?
Here are some clear exhortations for those who try to reconcile worldly practices with the holiness of the Church.
They masquerade as intellectuals to promote veritable "theological knots" and "revolutionary" evangelism strategies that, upon even slightly closer scrutiny, find no biblical support whatsoever, being based solely on sensory experiences, fleeting feelings, and purely carnal revelations.
Counterfeit Sanctification
Indeed, it is ridiculous to observe individuals, especially leaders, distorting the expression "in season and out of season" to justify the insane pragmatism that has replaced what should be the gospel.
It seems that biblical reading has been abandoned in favor of "maxims" and jargon from evangelical marketing. Let's read the text in its entirety to restore the truth:
I solemnly charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom,
That you preach the word,
insists on time and out of time,
redarguas,
reprimands,
exhorts,
with all patience and doctrine.
For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.;
But, having itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers according to their own desires;
And they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn to myths.
How I would like to thank the apostle Paul for the precious warning and, with deep sadness, confirm: my dear friend… that time has come!
The preaching he refers to is not the repeated psychological garbage of self-help. ad nauseam on the stages of ecclesiastical businesses within the new paradigm, with the aim of attracting those who call themselves "unchurched"!
Preaching that leads to biblical sanctification, while remaining patient, never abandons doctrine and involves constant rebuke and exhortation!
There is also the frequent and distorted use of "examine everything and retain what is good" to introduce foreign concepts and spurious doctrines into worship.
Presented in isolation, this phrase serves only as an excuse for contamination.
Let's look at the context:
Do not despise prophecies.
Examine everything.
Hold onto the property.
Abstain from every appearance of evil.
In some versions, instead of "abstain," we find "turn away" or even the term "flee"... which in itself is quite clear: it's not even about looking, but about literally running away as soon as we detect the mere appearance of evil!
Contrary to what those who fear financial loss preach, the rejected object should be discarded, not filtered to be incorporated into Christian practices.
Biblical sanctification requires discarding what is impure, not "reinterpreting" it.
The Body Hardware
It is the physical machine where everything happens, but it doesn't define the logic; it only processes it as long as there is energy.
- Finite, subject to bugs (sin), security vulnerabilities;
- Designed for planned obsolescence (death).
Holy Spirit (Faith) = Operating System
The Operating System is installed at the point of embarkation (Conversion). Without it, the hardware It's a spiritual paperweight.
- Enhances and directs hardware actions;
- It refers to and enables constant updates (renewal of understanding, via Scripture);
- It guarantees the transmission of content to the cloud by destroying the hardware.
Sanctification = Applications
These are the decision-making bodies. For each area of life, the Operating System It needs to trigger a different facet of sanctification.
- Professional: Integrity;
- Social: Character;
- Private (Secret): Purity;
- Digital: Discernment.
Warning Signs in the Congregation
A Christian who seeks biblical sanctification must be able to identify when an organization has ceased to be the Body of Christ and has become a social club or a business.
Pay attention if the following occurs in your congregation:
- They are incorporating empty, distorted, or mantra-like songs into their church services, claiming it's to attract and please a "young audience"...
- Strange doctrines are accepted in the name of increasing the number of conversions…
- It is the target audience, rather than the Holy Spirit, who decides when, how, and where a message will be preached…
- To "conquer the world," the company is celebrating it and bringing it into what should be rational worship...
- Strange methods — regression, mantras, hypnosis, alterations of the natural state of consciousness — are being used…
- There are amulets, any aspect of idolatry, mysticism, esotericism…
- They allow for the presentation of authors who write about the dead who "surely" intercede for the living…
- Jesus Christ ceases to be the sole intercessor between man and God…
- Blessings will only come through tithes and offerings…
- The sermons are not 100% based on the Bible and 100% within the biblical context…
- There are ecumenical exhibitions…
- There is acceptance of homosexual practices, divorces without biblical basis, or sex outside of marriage (both among members and leaders)...
- The church has ceased to be a church and has become a business…
- There is administrative misconduct, disputes, alcoholism…
- The messages are designed to please sinners instead of confronting them with their sins…
- Biblical texts are being taken out of context and used as pretexts…
If you identify one or more of these items, know that this organization has ceased to contribute to your biblical edification and sanctification, becoming, at best, a mere social club.
Convenience or discomfort?
There is a strong biblical recommendation on how to proceed when faced with any organization or establishment that is drinking from the same cup as the great Babylon:
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying:
Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins.,
so that you do not incur its plagues.
Someone might say:
— But, Teóphilo… I can see those mistakes, but I don't want to be the only one complaining: nobody there complains about anything, and everyone is quiet and in communion!
CHRISTIANS,
We need to have a serious conversation about...
So, did you really pay attention to the warnings? 1ˢᵗ Thessalonians 5:20 e 2ⁿᵈ Timothy 4:3-4 ?
Open your Bible and see if you really know the prophecies — Matthew 24:5, 11-12, 23-24; 2ⁿᵈ Thessalonians 2:3-4; 1ˢᵗ Timothy 4:1-3; 2ⁿᵈ Peter 2; 2ⁿᵈ Peter 3:17 e Judas — which we should not despise?
E Colossians 2:8, 1ˢᵗ Timothy 6:3-5 e Titus 1:10-16…were they inserted into the Scriptures just as a joke?
And of course, never forget: the "final test" with God will not be a "group project"!
So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
Therefore, dear readers, although salvation is by grace, biblical sanctification is a command that demands effort, renunciation of conveniences, and often, necessary confrontation:
Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth;
I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
If, in the life of a Christian, the verb 'to believe' can be considered a point, 'to sanctify' is a long, continuous line to be drawn after it, even if undesirable tremors occur…
But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct;
For it is written:
Be holy, because I am holy..
And if you call on the Father, who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds,
Walk in fear during the time of your pilgrimage.
