Assisted by local paramedics, he told them: \u201cI don\u2019t want to leave the game!\u201d\u2026 and these were his last words. He then collapsed unconscious. He was rushed by ambulance to the hospital, where he arrived already dead.<br>His rebellion against the treatment cost him the highest price it could: his life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">He was only 23 years old, and in June of that same year he would finish his studies and be eligible to enter the NBA draft.<br>His best friend, Bo Kimble, would fulfill the dream that Hank couldn&#039;t and turn professional that same year, playing for the Los Angeles Clippers and the New York Knicks.<br>This tragic story is told in the film \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Final_Shot:_The_Hank_Gathers_Story\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Final Shot \u2013 The Story of Hank Gathers (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Final Shot \u2013 The Story of Hank Gathers<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Destiny and Choice: The Price of Rebellion<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">I don&#039;t believe in destiny.<br>I believe that God allows us to make the choices we want and makes us face the consequences of them, although He is always ready to help us through the problems that we often create for ourselves.<br>Hank discovered something that, while not preventing him from playing basketball, would at least prevent him from being as brilliant as he could have been if he hadn&#039;t had to live with this problem. This placed him before a high-risk choice, which he decided to accept and make his decision... a choice that would prove to be a big mistake.<br>But how could he have imagined that the consequences of his mistake in pursuing his dreams at any cost would be the worst possible?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Terry Cummings and the Mystery of Providence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">There&#039;s another case of a basketball player, Terry Cummings, who had an even more serious heart arrhythmia problem than Hank Gathers, and he had a full NBA career, from his debut with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1984 until his retirement with the Golden State Warriors in 2000\u2026 and he&#039;s still alive today!<br>Cummings is currently a Christian preacher in the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">That&#039;s why, when I watched the movie about Hank&#039;s story, I started to imagine that there really are dreams that God doesn&#039;t want us to fulfill\u2026<br>Not because he is a stingy and &quot;spoiler&quot; God, but for our own good.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><style>.kb-image16521_589256-ab .kb-image-has-overlay:after{opacity:0.3;}<\/style>\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image16521_589256-ab\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/terry-cummings-nba-pregador-sonhos.jpg\" class=\"kb-advanced-image-link\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/terry-cummings-nba-pregador-sonhos.jpg\" alt=\"A montage showing Terry Cummings as a Milwaukee Bucks player and, in the foreground, in clerical attire as a preacher.\" class=\"kb-img wp-image-16578\" srcset=\"https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/terry-cummings-nba-pregador-sonhos.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/wp-content\/smush-webp\/2023\/02\/terry-cummings-nba-pregador-sonhos-300x300.jpg.webp 300w, https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/wp-content\/smush-webp\/2023\/02\/terry-cummings-nba-pregador-sonhos-150x150.jpg.webp 150w, https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/wp-content\/smush-webp\/2023\/02\/terry-cummings-nba-pregador-sonhos-768x768.jpg.webp 768w, https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/terry-cummings-nba-pregador-sonhos-12x12.jpg 12w, https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/terry-cummings-nba-pregador-sonhos-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Although Cummings survived to see his dreams realized, the editor found the title of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/hemi.church\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Doctor Apostle<\/a>\u201d&quot; flaunted by him.&quot;.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Hank could have been a professional player, although perhaps with less brilliance than he imagined achieving, but his own inability to accept his condition led him to rebel against a life-saving treatment, thus ending his life and, consequently, all his dreams.<br>I don&#039;t judge his eternal destiny. I don&#039;t know, and no one can know, what happened to him at the time of his death, but the fact that his ambition to want more than what God had reserved for him took everything from him is undeniable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hope That Overcomes Broken Dreams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">I am not saying here that the pain of a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/piorevangelho.online\/en\/within-the-limits-of-ambition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lost dream<\/a><\/strong> Don&#039;t weigh it down.<br>Each of us surely has painful memories of hopes that were not fulfilled and dreams that did not come true.
